Monthly Summary: September 2013

A very warm and dry September. Although we had 1.67 inches of rain, this is still only half the long-term September average. August’s heat wave bled into the first third of September. No frost was reached, although there was some indication on exposed spots on the morning of September 29.

So –do Septmbers become warmer and drier? The last few years seem to indicate so. But this needs more attention. A cursery overlook over the 95-year records shows that there is a periodicity in max temps as well as in precip, of about 16-21 years period. If that is true, then we are right now at a minimum-precip/maximum termperature situation in that oscillation. Stay tuned.
